January Is Poverty Awareness Month – Meet The Bicycle

January is Poverty Awareness Month. As a company that works day in and day out to create and preserve affordable housing in America, we’re deeply aware of the scope and scale of the problem. At Boston Financial we’re working to close the gap in affordable housing accessibility by continuing to focus our work on equity initiatives that help people get a safe, quality, affordable place to call home.

These are places like The Bicycle in Yakima, Washington, developed by NEXT STEP HOUSING ASSOCIATION. The Bicycle consists of 80 affordable homes, with 30 for families with children experiencing homelessness; 10 for other adults experiencing homelessness; 12 for neurodivergent people; 8 for veterans; 4 for people with chronic mental illness, and 4 for people with physical disabilities. Supportive services include case managers; relapse prevention; 12 Step AA peer support meetings; and employment services such as job training, resume preparation, interviewing skills, and job placement.
